“Chinese people still face serious health risks from food safety problems. The phenomenal economic growth for the food processing market means that it is critical that new safety solutions are adopted.” - Zhang Wenkang, Chinese Health Minister

Concerns about food safety involve the use of inferior, fake or contaminated ingredients, food sold after its expiry date, and substandard food-processing conditions. China encourages the adoption of advanced international standards on food safety and is actively pushing forward the national standards to international levels - particularly concerning the production, circulation, processing, storage, transportation and selling of food.

In the past, protection depended to a large extent on the capacities of Chinese food producers, especially in regards to their technical and financial capabilities. New pressure from the government and industry associations means that implementing maximum hygiene and improved food safety solutions within the food processing chain has to be a priority if companies want to compete domestically and internationally

    * Hygiene and sanitation solutions: the importance of getting back-to-basics with the Hand Washing for Life Initiative and innovative cleaning to break the chain of infection.
